GE Discovery MI 

If you were to ask me what the highest-end PET/CT I’ve seen this year, there would be no doubt in my mind before telling you about the GE Discovery MI.  

This system checks all the boxes. 128 Slices. Check. Time-of-Flight. Check. Cardiac, oncology, neurology, research, clinical capabilities. Check. Oh, it also had Digital Detectors! Double Check! 

This also came with conventional detectors such as the Discovery MI DR (digital-ready). 

This may not be the first digital PET/CT to hit the secondary market, but it is by far the nicest. 

Philips Vereos 

If the GE Discovery MI checks all the preferred boxes, then the Philips Vereos wins the bells and whistles competition.

As the only camera with LED lighting strips around the entire gantry, it boasts 64 slices and the distinction of being the first model to offer digital detectors. With time-of-flight and LYSO detectors, it’s a high-end system for the Philips house.

There weren’t many made so it’s pretty rare to get one. But the exclusivity makes it more of a gem. 

GE Discovery IQ 

While this is an entry-level system for GE, it comes in 3-, 4-, and 5-ring configurations.

We'd argue that it is one of the best cardiac and all-purpose PET/CTs available.

It’s available in 16-slice and goes well into mobile and fixed site configurations. We expect to see two or three in 2024 and more as GE installs more OMNI Legends. 

As GE continues the rollout of OMNI Legends, we anticipate a gradual increase in the GE Discovery IQs in the refurbishment market. 

Siemens Biograph Horizon 

With time-of-flight, 16- or 32-slice air-cooled configurations, and LSO detectors, this is one of the most sought-after systems for mobile applications.

Not to mention, it’s the perfect system for cardiac PET and oncology.

We expect to see many more of these systems available in the refurbishment market as Siemens expands its installed base of digital PET/CTs.

GE Discovery 690 

While we’ve seen these for the last three years in the market, they are still solid performers coming in 16-, 64-, and (rarely) 128-slice variants.

We are seeing a better supply of these in 2024 as the newer GE systems come out.

Built on the excellent Brightspeed or VCT 64 CT architecture, with time-of-flight LYSO detectors, these are normally well-outfitted with cardiac, oncology, and neurology programs.

Several units have been enhanced with the Q. Suite and upgraded computers, significantly boosting their speed.

GE Discovery 710 

This model should likely be a top consideration.

Excluding the more costly and exclusive GE Discovery MI, it stands as the flagship GE PET/CT in the secondary market.

Available in 16-, 64-, and 128-slice configurations, these units incorporate the GE Optima 540 and 660 CTs.

Equipped with time-of-flight capabilities and the advanced Q. Suite, they offer exceptional speed and cutting-edge technology, making them the most sought-after PET/CT on the market today.
