If you provide DEXA service to patients, eventually, you'll need someone to provide service for your DEXA equipment. Preventative maintenance, repairs, replacement parts- all of these will be necessary at one time or another, but how much can you expect to pay for that kind of coverage? We can help you get an idea.
The two biggest players in the world of DEXA are GE and Hologic. Because of this, the figures you'll see below pertain specifically to full service plans for models from their product lines. While there are certainly other manufacturers providing bone density equipment, figures based on GE and Hologic models will give you the best averages to begin planning a service budget.
GE Models
For GE DEXA systems from the Prodigy series (Primo, Advance), you can expect to pay somewhere between $3,600 and $4,000 per year for full service coverage from an ISO. The newer, rarer iDXA systems will run between $9,500 and $12,000 per year. Prices vary within the range based primarily on the age of the system under coverage.
Hologic Models
For Hologic DEXA systems, including the QDR 4500, the Delphi series (A, C, W), and the Discovery series (A, C, P, SL, W), ISO service costs currently average between $3,800 and $5,000 per year, also depending on the age of the system.
The Takeaway
Your DEXA unit performs a service that, for many patients, is recommended at an annual or biennial frequency by the federal government. To be the provider that referring physicians turn to for that service, you'll need the consistent equipment uptime that regular system service offers.
