Copley 274 Gradient Parts: Lifespan and Cost Info
The Copley 274 gradient amplifier is used with the Philips Intera 1.5T MRI scanner. Inside the gradient cabinet are three parts that most Intera users will find themselves replacing at one point or another.
- Gradient Module
- Gradient power supply
- Gradient controller
If you're reading this and you have an Intera, I'd be willing to bet a modest sum of American dollars (or, perhaps, Malaysian Ringgits) the next two questions you have are: "How often do I need to replace these?" AND "How much will it cost?"
Read on to find out just what you can expect from your Copley gradient components.
Life Expectancy
Gradient components fall into the category of parts that will, at some point, fail and require replacement. We won't go so far as to call them "consumables", but there's a strong likelihood that you'll need to swap any/all of them out once every 1 to 3 years. Because what breaks these parts down is the sheer power capacity they handle, the frequency of replacement will depend largely on the amount of patient traffic going through your scanner.
Replacement Cost
If the thought of replacing these parts that often has you a little nonplussed, there's some encouraging news: replacement parts for your Copley 274 gradient are available used at significant savings over buying new. See the table below for a side-by-side price comparison. NOTE: prices are based on present market averages (Dec. 2014)
Part | New Price | Used Price |
Copley 274 Gradient Module (PN 4522-150-20702) | $21,400 | $900-$1,400 |
Copley 274 Gradient Power Supply (PN 4522-150-39291) | $28,600 | $7,000-$9,000 |
Copley 274 Gradient Controller (PN 4522-150-20712) | $67,000 | $1,500-$1,800 |
Availability
On top of the good news about pricing, there's more good news about availability. All three of these parts are relatively easy to find used and, at least for the time being, you are quite likely to be able to take advantage of the savings of buying used.
